Remember, Remember 5th November
Parihaka: A Commemoration
1pm, Friday 5th November,
Christchurch Anglican Cathedral
Guest Speaker: Sir Paul Reeves
129 years ago the village of Parihaka in Taranaki, peacefully protested the forceful seizure of their land. Parihaka’s leaders Te Whiti o Rongomai and Tohu Kakahi were jailed without trial at Addington Prison. Hundreds of others from Parihaka were also jailed throughout the South Island. We gather to celebrate their actions, to hear the story retold and remember.
The event will be attended by a group of children and elders from the Taranaki village of Parihaka. They will be performing waiata, poi and rope-skipping before and during the event: to evoke the spirit of non-violent resistance which colonial troops encountered in 1881 when the village was invaded.
You are cordially invited to attend this event. For more information please contact: Rob Ritchie

Vietnam Trip
Do you teach Vietnam at Year 12? Are you thinking about teaching it at other year levels?
If so then you might be interested in going on the Teacher’s familiarisation trip to Vietnam being run in September this year. This trip includes the Cuchi Tunnels as previous trips feedback asked for this to be included. The cost to go on one of these trips is about $3300.

Level 2 Consultation
The Level 2 History Standards are up on the TKI site for you to start reading through and jotting down ideas for your submission to the Standards Writing Group. This will be called for in August/September and it is VERY important that you have a say. The SWG reads through these very carefully and considers all feedback.
